There are four pre-recorded videos in this self-directed learning package with regards to General Radiography:

  1. Artifact Management
  2. Quality Control
  3. Dose Management Strategies
  4. Understanding Radiation Risk and Communicating This To Patients

These videos are expected to be extremely relevant to help improve an MRT's practice. Quizzes are also included at the end of each video to evaluate your learning. Each video is approximately one (1) hour long and contains comprehension questions also. A minimum pass of 75% overall is required to obtain 4.0 Category A credits.

From section on "Introduction and Motivation":

All Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) mammography facilities must adhere to Canadian Association of Radiologists - Mammography Accreditation Program (CAR-MAP) requirements. Current CAR-MAP requirements state that various parameters are required to be evaluated as part of the Quality Control (QC) program. These requirements, however, lack clear instructions on how to perform QC activities in order to achieve compliance. Some of the shortcomings include:

  • No guidance on how to perform the QC evaluations
  • No clear pass/fail criteria upon performing the QC evaluations
  • No criteria to determine if clinical imaging should be continued or halted, based on the QC evaluations

As of March 1, 2020, in addition to CAR-MAP QC adherence, the following changes to the QC requirements were implemented for all OBSP facilities:

  • Requirement of either a D-phantom or the ACR Digital Mammography QC Phantom for evaluating SDNR/CNR weekly, see page 10
  • Monthly breast thickness indicator accuracy evaluation, see page 23
  • Monthly artifact evaluation, see page 29

The 2nd Edition of this user guide addresses two critical issues:

 1) The potential confusion from a lack of clarity in CAR-MAP requirements; and

2) The potential confusion in adhering to the updated OBSP QC changes.

The content herein was designed to be easy to implement and manage while effectively preventing issues that may impact patient care. This document is not only appropriate for OBSP facilities, but for any CAR-MAP accredited facility, for example, in other provinces or territories.

Hands-on Mammography Quality Control Workshop

On-demand Training: Management of Artifacts, Quality Control, Dose Management, and Radiation Risks

Hands-on Mammography Quality Control Workshop

**Next time offered: TBD**

JF Medical Physics Inc. in partnership with Dixie X-ray Associates Ltd. is pleased to offer MRT's a brand new and exciting educational opportunity in the practical aspects of mammography quality control.

This workshop is ideal for mammography MRT's who are new to performing QC or even unsure of various QC aspects. Both a classroom component and a practical/hands-on component will be part of this course.

The classroom component will go into the fundamentals of mammography imaging, artifact management, and what the QC evaluations actually mean. The hands-on component will allow MRT's to get better at their skills in phantom set-up, image review, and QC documentation. Helpful practical tips to make the MRT more efficient at performing QC will also be part of this workshop.

The workshop is approved by CAMRT for 6.25 Category A credits.
